Noncredit Program Overview

The English Language Learner Institute (ELLI) at Samford University offers a concentrated English language noncredit curriculum designed to help non-native English speakers develop the English skills needed to achieve academic success in an American university.

ELLI offers two types of programs: 1) an English Bridge Program which provides English training for undergraduate students to prepare them for university classes, and 2) an ESL Academic Support Program for graduate students, which includes academic content tutoring and ESL classes. Both programs include technology-based instruction and cultural awareness activities.

The English Bridge Program includes four levels of classes in each of the following language skills: listening and speaking, reading, and writing. Grammar classes are offered in three levels. Each English Bridge Program class is a three-hour class. The English Bridge Program also offers electives that are one-hour classes. Electives vary by semester and need of the current student population.
