The master of science in education (M.S.E.) in K-12 collaborative special education, alternative master’s program (Alt A, Class A Certification) is designed for candidates who have earned a bachelor’s degree in a field other than education and who now seek to earn a master of science in education with Class A teacher certification for grades K-12, in special education.
Upon successful completion of this program and having met current certification requirements of the Alabama State Department of Education, the candidate is eligible for the master of science in education degree in collaborative special education (K-12) and Class A teacher certification.

K-12 Collaborative Special Ed, Alternative Master’s (Alt A, Class A Cert): 36-38 Credits
Professional Core: 12-14 Credits
Literacy Courses: 9 Credits
Teaching Field: 9 Credits
Total Required Credits: 36-38
*EDUC 522 is required unless an ALSDE-approved Survey of Special Education course has been taken previously.
**EDUC 523 is required unless an ALSDE-approved Diversity course has been taken previously.
