Secondary Education Major (B.S.E.)

The secondary education major is a Class B teacher certification program. Students in this major are required to choose one of the following two tracks to ensure they have fulfilled certification requirements: Track A: Double major in a state-approved content area (contact certification office for a list) or Track B: Take required content classes to meet state certification qualifications.

Required Courses


University Core Curriculum: 22 Credits

General Education Requirements: 25-26 Credits


Secondary Education Major (BSE): 36 Credits


Required State-Approved Content Classes: 44-52 Credits**


(to meet certification qualifications; credit hours subject to change)

Track A: Major in Secondary Educ AND an approved content field such as one of the following majors:

Biology Major (B.S.) , English Major (B.A.) , French Major (B.A.) , German Major (B.A.) , Mathematics Major (B.S.) , or Spanish Major (B.A.)  

Track B: Required Content Classes (as directed by an Education Advisor)

NOTE: Required classes vary by content checklist to meet State certification guidelines.

**Either track is designed for students to meet Certification Requirements.

Total Required Credits: 128-136


A minimum GPA of 2.75 is required.

NOTE: Program subject to change if state and/or federal requirements are revised.

 

NOTE TO STUDENTS WHO ARE ON THE DOUBLE MAJOR TRACK:

Track A students MUST:

1) See an advisor in BOTH areas

2) Fulfill all requirements for BOTH majors (including, but not limited to, General Education Requirements)
