The global studies major is a humanities-based interdisciplinary major providing students the tools to study, encounter, and engage with the people, cultures, and languages throughout history and in the ever-changing present.

HIST 200 - The West in Global Perspective (4)
HIST 300 - The Historian’s Craft (4)
Elementary World Language courses (4-8)*
Intermediate or Accelerated Intermediate World Language courses (4-8)*

Global Studies Electives: 36 Credits

Select five World History courses at the 300- or 400-level. Excludes HIST 300 , HIST 495 , and HIST 497 . (20)
Select four World Language courses at the 300/400-level. One course must be in the culture of the chosen language. Two or more culture courses preferred. (16)

Cultural Immersion: 4 Credits

Complete four credits of international study or internship, subject to approval of academic advisors (4) or

HIST 449 - History, Culture, and Colonialism (4)

Capstone: 4 Credits

HIST 495 - Senior Seminar (4)

General Electives: 8-24 Credits

Total Required Credits: 128

*Four of these credits are included in the General Education Requirements ; the balance (up to 16 for one language) will be applied towards General Electives.
