The MPH/JD joint degree program is offered in collaboration between the Department of Public Health and the Cumberland School of Law. Once completed, the student earns both a master of public health (MPH) and a juris doctor (JD).
The Samford University master of public health (MPH) program is committed to developing highly skilled public health professionals. Through faith-infused academic rigor and extensive community engagement, the program provides a solid foundation in evidence-based approaches to public health, leadership and management skills for public health practitioners, healthcare systems and policy, and cross-cultural communication skills to promote health in local and global communities. Graduates are equipped to serve their communities and make significant contributions globally. The online MPH program at Samford University embraces a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach that integrates cutting-edge scientific research, diverse cultural and faith perspectives, and an understanding of global and local health systems to address critical public health challenges.

Master of Public Health: 42 Credits
Public Health Core: 30 Credits
MPH and JD Shared Courses: 12 Credits
- 12 Credits taken in the Law School (LAW prefix) will be shared between the MPH and JD programs
- 12 Credits taken in MPH courses will be shared between the MPH and JD programs
Juris Doctor (JD) Program: 90 Credits
Click below to review the full juris doctor (JD) program. While the JD program requires 90 credits, as stated above, 12 credits can be applied towards the MPH degree and 12 of the MPH credits will be applied to the JD degree. Total Required Credits: 42
