The vision of the pharmacy school is to prepare pharmacists who transform lives.

The pharmacy school supports the Joint Commission of Pharmacy Practitioners (JCPP) statement of a unified vision for the future of pharmacy practice that states that “Pharmacists will be the health care professionals responsible for providing patient care that ensures optimal medication therapy outcomes.”

The mission of the Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy is to nurture and prepare persons within a Christian environment to be exemplary pharmacists and to improve health worldwide through innovative pharmacy practice, scholarship, and service.

The Samford University doctor of pharmacy program (PharmD) is designed to create graduates that are “Team and Practice Ready.”

Professional Year I, Total Required Credits: 37


Professional Year II, Total Required Credits: 35-37


Year III, Spring: 11-16 Credits


Professional Year III, Total Required Credits: 28-35


Year IV, Summer: 11-16 Credits**


Year IV, Fall: 10-15 Credits**


APPE’s (5 weeks each):**

  • PHAR 600-Level APPE (Required or Elective) (5)
  • PHAR 600-Level APPE (Required or Elective) (5)
  • PHAR 600-Level APPE (Required or Elective) (5)

Year IV, Spring: 11 Credits**


APPEs (5 weeks each).**

Capstone (Final) Module:

  • PHAR 64x - Capstone Selective (1)*

Professional Year IV, Total Required Credits: 37-42


Total Required Credits: 144


*Must complete 1 didactic elective prior to beginning APPEs plus a Capstone selective during the P4 spring semester.
**Must complete 8 APPEs (5 required; 3 elective) within the 9 rotation blocks.
***All students must complete an APPE in P4 spring semester.
