EDUC 328 - Math IV: Operations and Algebraic Thinking for Elementary Teachers (3)

This course explores the K-5 mathematics content from the Alabama Course of Study (ALCOS) with a focus on Operations and Algebraic Thinking. Students will examine key concepts such as understanding and applying the four operations, recognizing patterns and relationships, and developing early algebraic reasoning. Emphasis will be placed on building connections between arithmetic and algebraic thinking, including working with expressions, equations, and problem-solving strategies. The course integrates pedagogical approaches, including hands-on activities, collaborative learning, and effective questioning techniques, to support the development of students’ conceptual understanding and procedural fluency. Instructional strategies for differentiating lessons and assessing student progress in algebraic thinking will also be addressed. Prereq: EDUC 200 . Offered: Spring.
