EDUC 327 - Elementary Content Methods: Science and Social Studies (3)


This course equips prospective elementary and early childhood teachers with the strategies and pedagogical skills necessary to teach science and social studies effectively. This course emphasizes the development of deep content knowledge and the application of inquiry-based teaching methods. Candidates will learn to foster an engaging learning environment that encourages students to explore and understand the world around them. The curriculum is designed to prepare candidates to deliver science and social studies instruction that not only meets educational standards but also ignites curiosity and critical thinking in young learners. Special emphasis is given to adapting instruction for diverse learners, including strategies to support struggling readers across the curriculum and to provide developmentally appropriate instruction that promotes mastery, generalization, and the cultivation of critical thinking skills in science and social studies. EDUC 327 prepares prospective teachers to deliver comprehensive and engaging science and social studies education, emphasizing the importance of inquiry, adaptability, and critical thinking in fostering students’ understanding of their world.
