DVCO 575 - Mental Health and the Church (3)

The course is designed to help the student become grounded in both a theological/physiological and practical understanding of mental health and mental health issues. Given the use of both the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) and psychotropic medication in the wider behavioral health world this course is designed to help the student gain a working knowledge of the diagnosis of psychopathology, the DSM, and psychotropic mediation. The student will gain an understanding and knowledge of clinical mental health issues, and how they are addressed both inside and outside the church. Particular attention will be paid to the assessment, referral and shepherding of congregants with mental health issues and the means and methods to care for and shepherd families of those struggling with mental health issues.
