PAST 504 - Foundations of Professional Practice (3)

This course will discuss the initial origins of the physician assistant and the evolution of the profession. Emphasis will be placed on the legal and professional expectations of the physician assistant as well as the ethical considerations that guide medical practice. Students will discuss both cultural and social awareness, plus basic concepts for quality healthcare delivery. This course will also examine the future of physician assistants and examine the diversity among healthcare teams and the physician assistant’s role within them. Students will examine the physician assistant oath and the core ethics that provide the foundation of the profession. Students will also evaluate common pitfalls within the medical profession and discuss mechanisms to prevent burnout during their career. Offered: Fall.
