SOCI 320 - Social Research Methods(4) Review of methodologies and skills used by sociologists. Introduction to the logic of scientific inquiry, and the relationship between development of theoretically-based research questions and the process for seeking answers. Focus on two methodologies: 1) qualitative field investigation techniques, such as participant observation and narrative/content analysis; and 2) quantitative techniques such as survey procedures. Introduction to the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS-PC), a software program for statistical analysis. Sociology majors should take this course as early in their academic program as possible. Prereq: SOCI 100 or permission of department chair.
