PHTH 652 - Differential Diagnosis and Clinical Reasoning (2)

This course explores clinical reasoning models and differential diagnostic processes in physical therapy. Students will learn to screen for the presence of medical disease or other conditions whose treatment is outside of the scope of physical therapist practice. Topics will be presented from a perspective of screening systems through the history and physical exam in order to determine when it is most appropriate to (1) implement patient care, (2) consult with another health care provider, or (3) refer to a health care provider. Emphasis will also be placed on professional communication with patients, families, and other health care providers regarding appropriate patient/client management. Prereqs: PHTH 621, PHTH 633, PHTH 692, PHTH 702, PHTH 733, and PHTH 741. Offered: Fall.
