ARCH 316 - Structural Systems I (3) In this course, students will learn the design of basic structural systems: arches, vaults, domes, trusses, suspended and stayed structures, moment frame, braced frame, shear wall, framed tube, bundled tube, and suspended high-rise. Students will also explore how the design of various structural systems accounts for lateral loads, seismic loads, design loads, live loads, and stress/strain. The course will include an analysis of forces using and creating shear and moment diagrams. Students will design structures and build structural models including small, medium, and large spaces. Prereq: MATH 150 . Co-req: ARCH 319 . Offered: Fall.
