PHLT 533 - Communication Skills for the Health Professional (3) There is a strong positive relationship between a healthcare team member’s communication skills and a patient’s capacity to follow through with medical recommendations, self-manage a chronic medical condition, and adopt preventive health behaviors. Communication skills with the patient, within a team and to the public are essential skills for the health professional. This course will cover interpersonal foundations for human communication, effective patient communication strategies (active listening and motivational interviewing), risk communication, and health communications. This is an elective course for the M.P.H. Offered: Spring.
