The School of Health Professions provides students the opportunity to pursue a variety of specialties and fields of study within the health care workforce. Graduates are prepared to actively engage with teams of health care providers to deliver high quality care for the identification, prevention and treatment of diseases and disorders. The School was established in 2013 as a part of the College of Health Sciences.

Interprofessional education is at the core of the programs within the School of Health Professions and opportunities for students will continue to increase as new majors are added. The school is expected to grow exponentially over the next five years, to begin offering degrees at the master’s and doctoral level, in addition to adding new baccalaureate degree programs.

Within the School of Health Professions the opportunities for students are rich and the impact that these graduates will have on the health of our community and around the world is immeasurable. (NOTE: Samford’s Department of Physical Therapy is seeking accreditation of a new physical therapist education program from CAPTE. The program will submit an Application for Candidacy, which is the formal application required in the pre-accreditation stage. Submission of this document does not assure that the program will be granted Candidate for Accreditation status. Achievement of Candidate for Accreditation status is required prior to implementation of the professional phase of the program; therefore, no students may be enrolled in professional courses until Candidate for Accreditation status has been achieved. Further, though Candidate for Accreditation status signifies satisfactory progress toward accreditation, it does not assure that the program will be granted accreditation.)
